Bergheim
Bergheim is one of the few towns in Alsace to have kept its medieval fortified walls entirely intact, with their towers and upper gate, in the heart of the vineyards.
Getting there
By car from Ribeauvillé or Sélestat. By train: Sélestat station, then coach.
History
A former free town and place of sanctuary in the Middle Ages, Bergheim boasts 14th-century ramparts, a centuries-old lime tree and Renaissance houses.
Culture & stories
The rampart trail, grands crus all around and, more darkly, the history of the witch trials told at the Maison des Sorcières (Witches' House).
