Voted France's “favourite village” in 2017, Kaysersberg charms with its fortified bridge over the Weiss, its half-timbered houses and its castle overlooking the vineyards.
Getting there
By car from Colmar (about 20 min). By train: Colmar station, then coach.
History
A former imperial city, Kaysersberg retains its Holy Cross Church (altarpiece from 1518) and its Schlossberg castle. It is the birthplace of Dr Albert Schweitzer, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize.

A renowned Christmas Market, winegrowers' cellars and the climb to the castle ruins for views over the valley.
