La Volerie des Aigles (Eagle Park)

Free-flying birds of prey displays in the ruins of a fortified castle: eagles, vultures and falcons.

Overview

La Volerie des Aigles (Eagle Aviary) is set within the walls of Kintzheim Castle, a ruined medieval fortress perched in the forest above the Alsace plain. The highlight of the visit is the “Entre ciel et terre” (Between Sky and Earth) show, held in the open air several times a day depending on the season. Eagles, vultures and other birds of prey fly freely over the ramparts and the audience, while the falconers explain how each species lives.

Between shows, you can explore the site at your own pace: the aviaries, the castle courtyard, part of the upper fortress and short educational activities. The park changes theme over the course of the year. Since September 2026, shows and activities have focused on raptor migration, and a special Halloween programme, “Chouettes frissons” (a pun on owls and thrills), is planned from 17 October to 1 November. Allow about two hours on site, plus a ten-minute or so walk through the forest from the free car parks. In the height of summer, a shuttle bus also links Sélestat station to the Volerie, the Montagne des Singes (Monkey Mountain) and Haut-Koenigsbourg Castle.

Where to do it

In Kintzheim (Bas-Rhin (67)), in Alsace. Best season: ☀️ Summer.

Good to know

Arrive a little before the free-flight show: the birds of prey skim right over the audience.

Tips

Wear shoes suited to dirt paths and opt for a baby carrier rather than a pushchair inside the castle. From car parks P1 to P3, a flat forest path leads to the entrance; from P4 and P5, the climb is steep, with steps. The ticket offices close when the last show begins, so check the timetable before you set off.

Frequently asked questions

Do you need to book tickets for La Volerie des Aigles in advance?

No. Individual visitors don't need to book: you can buy tickets from the online ticket office or directly at the entrance. For groups, booking isn't compulsory either, but the park recommends it so it can better organise your visit.

How much does La Volerie des Aigles cost in 2026?

According to the official website, an individual ticket costs €12 for an adult and €8 for a child aged 5 to 14. Entry is free for under-5s. A reduced rate is available on proof of eligibility (students, people with disabilities, certain passes), as well as a personal annual pass.

Are dogs allowed at La Volerie des Aigles?

No. The park's rules do not allow pets inside the Volerie. If you're travelling with your dog, arrange for someone to look after it before your visit.

Is La Volerie des Aigles wheelchair accessible?

Only partly. The show area, the castle courtyard and part of the upper castle are accessible by wheelchair or pushchair. Other areas remain inaccessible because of steps and the historic nature of the site. A car park at the foot of the castle is reserved for blue badge holders.

Information checked in October 2026. Opening hours, prices and conditions may change: check the official website before you travel.
