Eguisheim

Built in concentric circles around its castle, Eguisheim has been voted France's “favourite village” and is listed among the Plus Beaux Villages de France.

Getting there

By car, about 7 km from Colmar; by train to Colmar station, then bus or taxi.

History

The village is regarded as the birthplace of Pope Leo IX, in the 11th century, and is a winemaking heartland of Alsace.

Flower-filled lanes, circular ramparts and winegrowers' cellars line the way, on the Alsace Wine Route.
