Essoyes

Tucked into the Ource valley, Essoyes is the village Auguste Renoir held dear: he spent his summers here and is buried here with his family.

Getting there

By car: Essoyes, in the south of the Aube, on the Côte des Bar (~45 min from Troyes).

History

The Impressionist painter bought a house here in 1896. Today you can visit the Renoir family home and the studio, recreated with their period atmosphere.

Culture & stories

The Espace des Renoir traces the artist's life; the wine village retains its wash houses, church and riverbanks.
