Domrémy-la-Pucelle (Joan of Arc)

Domrémy-la-Pucelle is the birthplace of Joan of Arc (c. 1412): you can visit the house where she was born and, on the hill, the Basilica of Bois-Chenu built in her honour.

Getting there

By car: Domrémy, in the west of the Vosges, near Neufchâteau.

History

A shepherdess, Joan heard her “voices” here before setting off to join Charles VII. The neo-Byzantine basilica was built between 1881 and 1926.

Culture & stories

Her birthplace, the “Visages de Jeanne” interpretation centre and the basilica together form a major site of remembrance.
