Saint-Mihiel
Strung out along the Meuse, Saint-Mihiel is a town of art that grew up around a powerful Benedictine abbey; it holds masterpieces by the Lorraine sculptor Ligier Richier.

By car: D964 along the Meuse, between Verdun and Commercy.
History
The Abbey of Saint-Michel, founded in the 8th century, flourished in the Middle Ages. The town was captured as early as 1914 in the “Saint-Mihiel salient”, retaken by the Americans in 1918.
