Palais du Tau
Next door to the cathedral, the Palais du Tau was the residence of the Archbishops of Reims and the setting for the lavish banquets that followed the coronation of the kings of France. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Getting there
By train: Reims station, a 15-minute walk away, right next to the cathedral.
History
Largely rebuilt in the 17th century, it retains the Salle du Tau, where the coronation banquets were held, and the palatine chapel. It now houses the cathedral treasury and original statues.
Culture & stories
Monumental tapestries, sacred gold and silverware and coronation regalia – including Charlemagne's talisman – are on display.
