Cité de l’Automobile — Schlumpf Collection (National Automobile Museum)
Housed in a former spinning mill in Mulhouse, the Cité de l'Automobile presents the Schlumpf Collection — the largest car collection in the world, with an unrivalled array of Bugattis.
Getting there
By train: Mulhouse station, then tram or bus to the museum. By car: Mulhouse-Centre exit, on-site parking.
History
Assembled in secret by the Schlumpf brothers, textile industrialists, the collection was revealed to the public in 1977 after their bankruptcy. The site displays more than 400 exceptional vehicles, including the legendary Bugatti Royale.
Culture & stories
Mercedes, Rolls-Royces, racing cars and masterpieces of coachbuilding are displayed in a vast hall lit by street lamps inspired by the Pont Alexandre-III.
