Écomusée d’Alsace (Open-Air Museum)
The largest open-air museum in France, the Écomusée d'Alsace recreates a living Alsatian village: some sixty half-timbered houses saved and rebuilt, with craftspeople, animals and festivities through the seasons.
Getting there
By car: Ungersheim, between Mulhouse and Colmar (A35, Ensisheim exit). Bollwiller station nearby.
History
Born in 1984 from an association of enthusiasts who saved traditional farmhouses destined for demolition, the site recreates rural Alsatian life of the past.
Culture & stories
Craft demonstrations, boat trips and seasonal events (Christmas, Halloween) punctuate the visit.
