Givet
The northernmost town in the Grand Est, Givet stretches along the Meuse at the foot of Fort Charlemont, a stronghold fortified by Emperor Charles V and later by Vauban.
Getting there
By train: Givet station (Meuse valley line). By car: in the far north of the Ardennes.
History
Long divided between Givet-Notre-Dame and Givet-Saint-Hilaire on either side of the river, the town is the birthplace of the composer Étienne Méhul.
Culture & stories
Fort Charlemont, the Tour Grégoire and the banks of the Meuse; Givet is the gateway to the Pointe de Givet and neighbouring Belgium.
