Alsace Wine Route
Created in 1953, it is the oldest wine route in France: nearly 170 km from Marlenheim to Thann, linking hillside vineyards, flower-decked villages and winegrowers' cellars.
Getting there
The route is best explored by car or by bike. To reach the different sections, use Colmar, Sélestat or Obernai stations. Grape harvests and wine festivals liven up the autumn.
History
Inaugurated in 1953, the Alsace Wine Route was one of the very first wine routes in France. It follows the Vosges foothills, where Alsace's vineyards have thrived since Roman times on perfectly exposed slopes.
Culture & stories
Along the way you can taste the great Alsace grape varieties — Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, Sylvaner — while passing through some of the most beautiful villages in France, such as Riquewihr, Eguisheim and Kaysersberg.
