Verzenay Lighthouse

An unusual sight, the Verzenay lighthouse rises in the middle of the Champagne vineyards. Built in 1909 as an advertising feature for a champagne house, it offers a 360° panorama over the vines.

Getting there

By car: Verzenay, on the Montagne de Reims (about 20 min from Reims). Parking at the foot of the lighthouse.

History

Built on Mont Rizan, it served as an observation post during both world wars. Today it houses a museum of vines and wine.

Culture & stories

After 101 steps, the platform at 25 m looks out over a sea of vines; the museum tells the story of vineyard work in Champagne.
