Bourbonne-les-Bains Spa

The only spa resort in Haute-Marne with hot springs, known since Antiquity and with a long military tradition.

Overview

Where Haute-Marne meets Lorraine and Franche-Comté, Bourbonne-les-Bains lives by the rhythm of its hyperthermal springs, known since Roman times. According to the spa’s own information, the water emerges at 66 °C and is rich in sodium, calcium, magnesium and trace elements. The town also has a long military history: its thermal hospital treated generations of soldiers before becoming the armed forces’ spa centre.

The baths have been through a turbulent period: after the former operator went into liquidation, the Haute-Marne attractiveness agency (Agence d’attractivité de la Haute-Marne) took over the running of the spa in 2025, and it is now operating normally again. The 2026 season runs from 30 March to 21 November. The core business is the 18-day health-insurance-funded spa cure, overwhelmingly for rheumatology, with respiratory conditions as the second speciality. If you’re not here for a cure, half-day wellness packages combine a few thermal-water treatments (hydromassage bath, jet shower) with access to the Aqua-détente leisure pool area. Between treatments, the small spa town is made for an unhurried stroll, far from the bustle of the big resorts.
