Auberive Abbey

Founded in 1135 and tucked away in the forests of southern Haute-Marne, the former Cistercian abbey of Auberive is now a contemporary art centre with an outstanding garden.

Getting there

By car: Auberive, south-west of Langres, in the Aube valley.

History

Rebuilt in the 18th century (with wrought-iron gates by Jean Lamour, the craftsman behind Place Stanislas), it served as a women's prison in the 19th century before its cultural revival.

Culture & stories

Art exhibitions, garden, cloister and concerts, at the heart of the Forêts National Park.
